Iranian President: Biden will betray the American people if he takes Trump’s old road.
BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) According to the Iranian National News Agency (IRNA), on June 30, Iranian President Rouhani said at a cabinet meeting that if US President Biden follows the old path of his predecessor Trump, it means that he betrayed the American people’s vote in the general election. It is reported that during Trump’s tenure, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal, restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iraq.
According to the report, Rouhani said that in the past three or four years, US sanctions and its "economic war" against Iran have brought many problems to the Iranian people. He said that the current Iranian government has never given up the cause of solving national problems, and has also taken many effective measures to deal with the problems caused by the "economic war" and the COVID-19 epidemic. At the same time, the Iranian government has not wasted any time in lifting the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and fulfilling the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
Rouhani pointed out that the new US administration has repeatedly condemned Trump’s withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal during the election campaign and acknowledged the ineffectiveness of sanctions against Iran, but now the whole world is watching Trump’s "crime" and "economic terrorism" against Iran. It continues under the new US administration; Therefore, if the Biden administration continues to follow this path, it means that it has betrayed the vote in the American people’s election.
On April 6th, 2021, the talks on the comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear issue were held in Vienna to discuss the resumption of compliance by the United States and Iran. So far, six rounds of talks have been held, but there are still serious differences between the United States and Iran.
In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany. According to the agreement, Iran promised to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iraq. In May 2018, the US government unilaterally withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal, and then restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iraq. Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some provisions of the the Iranian nuclear deal, but promised that the measures taken are "reversible".
